The power of grass
The sky is gloomy, with rain pattering down. Feeling upset over my poor exam results, I walked down a path in low spirits. The wind howled and big trees swayed, when I spotted a blade of grass growing beneath a rock.
A huge heavy rock pressed down on the grass’s roots, blocking sunlight and squeezing away soil. Yet the grass refused to surrender. It bent its delicate stem, pushing upwards bit by bit. Its tender shoots pressed against the stone, wound through tiny cracks, and finally stretched out its fresh green leaves beside the rock.
Rain bent it down and fierce wind tossed it about. Yet once the storm passed, it slowly stood upright again. Trampled repeatedly by passers‑by, it bent time after time, only to rise once more.
As an ancient poem goes: “Wildfires cannot burn the grass completely; it revives when spring breezes blow.” Though small and fragile‑looking, less beautiful than flowers and not as tall as big trees, grass possesses amazing resilience. It thrives in rocky cracks, sprouts from ruins, and rebounds from setbacks.
We ought to be like grass. Never give in to pressure or misfortune. Take root quietly, grow step by step, and build up our inner strength.
